The focus of most people pursuing operations excellence tends to be on tools. Tools, such as value stream mapping or 5S, are necessary for improvement, but not sufficient. The most important factor in successful achievement of a continuous improvement transformation and culture is leadership. The one common thread in all successful lean transformations (or lean six sigma transformations) is committed leadership. In this edition, we have three articles that talk about leadership. First, we have a leadership story called "A Tale of Two Companies." Next, we talk about creating a continuous improvement culture. Finally, we talk about lean and the learning organization. The materials referenced in this newsletter will teach you more about lean and six sigma.
