Lean and Six Sigma

Welcome to the April edition of our monthly newsletter, Learning to Lean.  In this month's edition, we focus on combining lean and six sigma.

Announcements

We still have space available in our April lean manufacturing training workshops.  On April 13th, we are offering a workshop on Value Stream Mapping in Orange, CA; this workshop will help you take a value stream improvement perspective in identifying and prioritizing process improvement opportunities.  On April 20, we are offering Creating Continuous Flow Manufacturing Cells in Carlsbad, CA.  And on April 21, we are offering Material Flow and Kanban in Carlsbad, CA.  These two workshops will help you create true continuous flow and efficient pull systems both in-house and with your supply base.

Click here for details on all of our training offerings, both on-site at your facility and public.

We also have created a survey in which you can tell us what types of public courses you would like to see us offer.  Click here to take our survey.

Lean and Six Sigma

People are talking about Six Sigma and Lean.  They have heard about the successes of GE and Motorola in the world of Six Sigma.  They have heard about the resounding success of Toyota and its Toyota Production System, which we now know as lean.  Are they competing methodologies, or should they be combined?

This month we feature three articles that should help you answer that question for yourself.  Firstly, we define Six Sigma and talk about many of its tools.  In our second article, we give you an overview of Lean Manufacturing.  Our third article talks about effectively using Six Sigma and Lean together.

The materials referenced in this newsletter will teach you more about the techniques and benefits of combining Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.  If the articles, links, and books to the left have piqued your interest and you would like to learn more, feel free to call us at 866-559-5598 or visit our website and click on "Contact Us."
