Learning to LeanThe Newsletter of EMS Consulting Group, Inc. August, 2003 www.emsstrategies.com
Lean Enterprise Overview Welcome to the first edition of our monthly newsletter, Learning to Lean. Lean is a philosophy or set of principles that focuses on the elimination of waste. This leads to a higher percentage of value-added activities and higher profits. The current state of the economy is a compelling reason to begin thinking lean: it can give your organization a competitive advantage as you head into the next economic upturn. When you do choose to begin the lean journey, keep in mind that lean is a cultural change. Management commitment and employee involvement, the key elements of a foundation for lean, can make or break a lean program. If the articles, links, and books to the left have piqued your interest and you would like to learn more, feel free to call us at 866-559-5598 or visit our website and click on "Contact Us." In future issues of Learning to Lean, we will be covering Design-for-Manufacturability, SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die), 5-S, Value Stream Mapping, and other useful tools and methodologies to help you eliminate waste. Best Regards. Darren Dolcemascolo
