5S: A Foundational Lean Tool

Many experts believe that 5S is a good way to begin a lean implementation.  5S is easy to understand and accessible to employees at all levels of an organization. A 5S program will get all employees engaged and beginning to think lean.   Such lean thinking will aid in further lean transformation.

This month's edition features three articles that should help you understand more about 5S.  Firstly, we give an overview of 5S.  Our second article talks about the steps to 5S implementation.  In our third article, we talk about sustaining a 5S program.
